I am a Registered Psychologist and Marriage and Family Therapist trained in a variety of counselling approaches. What makes me unique as a professional is that I have received training in both couple and family therapy as well as individual mental health issues. It is rare when professionals are skilled in addressing individual mental health issues as well as relational dynamics.Through my expertise, I can help clients resolve relational issues while attending to each partner's unique personal history, experience, and mental processes. As a researcher and clinician, I offer up-to-date knowledge of individual and couples distress using empirically supported and effective interventions.
I have a PhD in Counselling Psychology
from the University of Calgary. I undertook psychology internships at the British Columbia Ministry for Children and Family Development and at the Family Therapy Program in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. I also completed a pre-doctoral internship approved by the Canadian Psychological Association through the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) in Edmonton and a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Guelph conducting research on couple and family therapy. Presently, I am an Assistant Professor in Couple and Family Therapy at the University of Guelph.
In addition to my formal education, I have taken a number of psychotherapy trainings and workshops including Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Satir’s Systemic Brief Therapy, EMDR (Level I and II), Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
I have published in national and international journals and presented at various conferences on the topics of individual, couple, and family therapy; client-therapist relationship; and psychotherapy process and outcome. My dissertation research focused on how therapists can effectively and collaboratively assist clients in reaching desired goals. I have also taught courses in counselling/clinical psychology at the University of Alberta and am presently teaching at the University of Guelph.
